Raining Again........

its not that I don't like the rain! I know we are desperate for it, (my water butts are overflowing) even with all the watering I am doing in the greenhouse. I just wish it would warm up abit. We are due another frost this weekend, according to the weather forecast.
But some of my plants that like the rain....

I am pleased to see my 'Shuttlecock' fern. I had forgotten I had planted one up here and they are sprouting up all over the place.

Due to the dry winter I thought this had had it too, but obviously not!

As for the lawn, well what can I say, except it is very lush and extremely long and far to wet to mow. The dog hates going on it at the moment.

On the right of the filter box is 'Rheum palmatum' it spent the last 2 years in a pot, it looks so much happier in the ground.. The Gunnera is on the left of the filter box and is not liking the cold, I must remember to cover it this weekend before the frosts.

This fern was in front of the old shed and grows really tall, it spent most of last year in a big bucket and really only went in the ground December. With the dry winter we had I wasn't sure if it had come through as my watering of it was very erratic, so I am thrilled to see it unfurling. I think I must get a book on ferns.
I spent a lovely morning in the greenhouse, but that will be for another day as I don't want to overload you with photos.

There was a meeting about the 'Open Gardens' this week. It was lovely to meet the other gardeners and it has given me another boost. Just hope the weather warms up a bit. I can cope with the rain but I could do with less frost.

Anyway lets begin at the right hand side of the greenhouse, in the yellow box. These are all the 'doubles' of pond plants, just in case we had another bad winter. As you can see they are doing well.

The top shelf has some of my new Brugmansia's, one of which is Brugmansia Sanguinea Orange, an Olive and a Begonia Luxurians. I love the leaves of this.

Further along, we have a selection of tomato plants, climbers, Sweet Peas, Nasturtiam and Ipomea underneath some Heuchera, Petunia's and some Foxglove 'Illumination, a new one from Thompson & Morgan.

from left to right... Colocasia Fallux, still quite small, and I think may have to go back on the heat mat as they haven't done much for quite awhile. Beside another petunia which as you can see has decided to flower already. Then we have at the front Ricinus and behind more nicotiana. I love the Ricinus to think how big this will be in a few weeks and even months.

The ensete in the front pot is a ? which has been potted up on 'horse manure'.

Getting tired yet? One of my Ensete Maurelli, this one has been repotted onto horse manure. This one usually gets the 'strangles' so we shall see.

Trying hard not to over do it!

Having been so ill for so long I am now trying my hardest not to over do it, as I get so very tired. Currently hubby is at home and is forever shouting at me from the office, telling me not to do this or that, it is so frustrating. The sad thing is, he is so right!! (But don't tell him I told you!)
I admit that when I am outside, I find little things to do, that lead to larger things and so on and so forth!

Anyway this is what has been going on so far..

the trough is now planted. And no I did not fill it with soil, I just did the planting. I still have some more climbers to go in. Hopefully by July it should look alot better and I can always fill with bedding plants.

between the trough and the filter box I have managed to acquire some plants from 'Freecycle' which I hope will grow big enough to hide the filter box.

Hubby bought some new fish yesterday and the blanket weed is diminishing due to a 'doody' gadget Xterminator it seems to be working too!

I am so looking forward to sitting out here in the summer.

The Greenhouse, well what can I say?

full and overflowing, you can see some new staging I have bought to the right of the greenhouse, I was hoping to be able to fit it in, but it won't go!

I am very tempted to get rid of the new veg bed next to the office seen in the next pic and get another greenhouse here, we shall see, I suppose it all depends on how much I have to over winter?

I will have to think quite seriously about that.

Now look at my 3 headed daffodil, isn't it lovely. I have gone for the miniature ones as I hate all the greenery the full blown ones have.

Wonder how unusual this is? I shall mark this and see if it does the same thing next year.

Its taking me forever to get the veg beds, raked, riddled etc. When I had them re-edged a lot of the gravel and rubbish got into the beds so they need to be sorted before I plant them up. But I am finding it very hard to do. Just wears me out!  Anyway, I managed the smallest bed, took me ages to do and biggest cheat of all, I bought the broad beans!!!

My neighbours, big veg growers, have planted loads. We are great friends and they inspire me to keep going. This weekend, they have spent the whole weekend re- arranging there growing areas. So banter between the gardens has been going on!

My big one is looking rather poorly. I hope it pulls through.

When we went to the Water Garden for the fish, I picked up some hosta's. I intend to grow them in pots as Will Giles from the Exotic Garden grows them.

Raining today, so I won't be outside today.
